Terms of Use

By creating a BUMI account, you accept these terms. If you do not agree with them, do not use the app.

1. What BUMI is

BUMI is an app for writing, keeping and sharing cooking recipes. It is free. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.

2. Your account

You are responsible for your password and for what happens under your account. Tell us immediately if you believe it has been compromised.

One account per person. You may not impersonate anyone, or create an account in someone else's name without their consent.

3. Your content belongs to you

The recipes, text and photos you publish remain your property.

By publishing them as public, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host them, display them in the app and offer them to other users — strictly for the purpose of operating the service. This license ends when you delete the content or your account.

We do not resell your content and do not use it outside the app.

You warrant that you hold the rights to what you publish. Do not copy protected recipes from a book or a website without permission: a list of ingredients is generally not protectable, but an introduction text, a photograph and an original layout are.

4. Zero tolerance for abusive content and behavior

The following are strictly prohibited on BUMI:

• hateful or discriminatory content, or content inciting violence;
• harassment, threats, intimidation;
• sexually explicit or pornographic content;
• violent or shocking content, or content glorifying self-harm;
• illegal content, or content promoting illegal activities;
• impersonation;
• spam, unsolicited advertising, fraudulent links;
• publishing someone else's personal data without their consent;
• any recipe or instruction that poses a deliberate danger to health.

Reporting content or behavior

Every recipe and every profile has a menu that lets you report the content or block its author. Blocking someone removes their recipes from your feeds, right away.

Our commitment

We review every report and we act within 24 hours. Content that breaks these rules is removed, and the account that published it is suspended or deleted, without prior warning in cases of serious violation.

5. Food safety

The recipes published on BUMI are written by users. They are neither checked nor validated by a professional.

Always check allergens, cooking times and temperatures, and the freshness of your ingredients. The publisher cannot be held liable for an intolerance, an allergy or food poisoning linked to preparing a recipe found in the app.

6. Automatic recognition and generated illustrations

The app can read a photo of a handwritten recipe and turn it into a structured one, automatically match ingredients to steps, and generate an illustration when no photo is provided.

These processes are automatic and fallible. Always re-read what was recognized before you cook from it: quantities, units, times. A generated illustration is a decorative image, not a photo of your dish.

7. What we may do

We may suspend or delete an account, remove content, or restrict access to the service if these terms are breached, without notice where the severity justifies it.

The service is provided "as is". We do what it takes to keep it running, but we guarantee neither uninterrupted availability, nor the absence of bugs, nor the eternal preservation of your data. Keep a copy of anything you care about.

8. Termination

You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent.

9. Personal data

How we process your personal data is described in our Privacy Policy.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA. If you live in the European Union, this choice does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer rules of your country of residence, nor of the right to bring proceedings before your local courts. Failing amicable resolution, disputes are otherwise subject to the courts of California.

11. App Store

The app is distributed through the App Store. These terms are between you and the publisher, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, but is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you.

12. Changes

These terms may be updated. Substantial changes will be flagged to you in the app. Continuing to use BUMI after an update constitutes acceptance.
